What Is Egyptian Cotton?
Egyptian cotton is made from the Pima cotton (or Gossypium barbadense) plant. This is a cotton plant known to produce very silky fibers. Once you harvest this fine cotton and use a Jacquard-weaving process to create linens, you have a truly luxurious set of beddings that make getting up every morning even more of a chore. Egyptian cotton is usually manufactured in Egypt or in Italy. What importance does thread count play in determining the feel of the material? Although it is only one factor (in addition to quality and purity) a higher thread count can improve the texture of the piece. When you have both high quality and a high number of threads, you truly feel the difference. A 1500 thread count Egyptian sheet would truly be fit for a Pharaoh.
